Rule The Roads With Radar Detection

2010
07.23

At first, I was skeptical about the performance of a $40 detector, but after a few recent trips driving across country, the Pacific Digital radar detector has proved to me that it can get the job done. Here are some of my thoughts on the product:

Although it does not have brilliant filtering skills for false signals, it can still give you enough X/K/Ka warning for you to slow down and to cheat the cameras or speed traps. The two blue LED’s are great because you can easily see them out of the corner of your eye, you don’t even need to move your neck. This is extremely useful when your radio muffles the audible signals, or when the sun washes out the primary letter warning lights. It’s a not distracting device at all, very safe.

Although it does not have the features of the top of the line detectors (coiled power cord, voice alert, text readout, settings save, compass, etc), it has at its core the most important feature: the essential detection ability to provide enough caution for the driver. This price cannot be beat anywhere.

Thanks to an overwhelmingly comprehensive database, the Pacific Digital detector has the ability to alert you of speed cameras, red light cameras, and common speed traps across North America. The database is frequently updated, and you’re provided with three months of downloadable updates for free.

Performance is on par with my inexpensive Cobra detector, and the alerts are less disruptive. It’s nice to have multiple city modes with the ability to disable X-band entirely. The Pacific Digital Blue LED “periscope” indicators really catch the corner of your eye, but become annoying with prolonged indications, such as when a patrol car is directly in front of you. There is no DIM/Night Mode for some reason, which is odd. The display is understandable and informative, but looks very inexpensive, especially compared to the Cobra in the same price range. The mount is durable, but the suction cups are small and I don’t imagine them to last long. This one does identify other detectors nearby, which increases the false positives. A great value, just don’t expect faultless detection or lots of features.

Your drums sound better with ginger sugarsnaps in the mix!

Traveling With Family? Bring Along A Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag

2010
07.23

Spending the night out in the open and without a bed is indeed a dreadful thought. One has to endure the discomfort of making do with what one can with blankets and pillows if one is lucky enough to have one. And yet, it does not come close anywhere to what a bed is. Sleeping bags were designed precisely to provide as good a feel as a bed. It provides the warmth and the insulation. It is also comfortable. And to top it, you can lug it around as a backpack. It is just the right thing to take along when one is camping out.

The sleeping bag protects you from the wind and keeps precipitation out to a great extent. You are protected from the outside. The insulating materials that are used in sleeping bags are either synthetic such as PrimaLoft. Or it could be down fill. Sometimes wool and cotton too are used to make sleeping bags. The synthetic sleeping bags are better insulators and water is not readily absorbed. It can also be folded like a blanket. The down fill bag is the better one for retaining heat. It can be compressed too. But the synthetic sleeping bags are cheaper.

Sleeping bags are available in two shapes namely the rectangular sleeping bag and the mummy shaped ones. The rectangular sleeping bags are bigger resembling a folded blanket that is zipped. It has straps or cords for securing the bag once it is folded. The mummy shaped bag has a broad and open portion at the shoulder tapering down as it comes to the leg side. It is smaller but has a better heat retention capacity. It cannot be folded but has to be rolled and stuffed into a sack for it to be carried easily. Sleeping bags are found with camping equipment dealers. A light sleeping bag that is comfortable is the marmot atom bag.

The synthetic bags are advantageous under wet conditions as compared to down bags. They are also cheaper than down bags but heavier. Finally the sleeping bag that you chose will depend upon the conditions where you intend to use. But then with a sleeping bag you can sleep anywhere.

Sleeping bags keep you comfortable. When you travel, don’t forget to bring along the top quality sleeping bags.

Information On Air Canada

2010
07.23

Air Canada started out as Trans-Canada Airlines in September’37. The inaugural flight was a 50 minute flight on a Lockheed L-10A from Vancouver to Seattle, transporting mail and a total of two passengers. The airline grew rapidly and by the year’64, Trans-Canada Airlines had become the national airline for Canada. It was then that the name was changed to Air Canada. The airline was privatized in’89. Air Canada also bought Canadian Airlines International around that time.

The airline is today more than 70 years and is largest airline providing passenger service in Canada. It carries approximately 32 million passengers yearly, to 170 varied destinations worldwide. Air Canada ranked as–th among the different airlines worldwide.

Air Canada believes that travel should be convenient for its customers and therefore it is the only airline that offer flight passes. Flight passes allow the passenger to manage their travel online. These flight passes can be obtained either in the form of pre-purchased flight credits or a monthly subscription that provides you with unlimited flights in certain sectors.

Air Canada has been ranked as one of the world’s best airlines, and this is based on the feedback provided by the passengers of Air Canada. According to a survey that was conducted, from August 2006 and June 2007, the airlines received the ‘Best Airline in North America’ title. It also received the ‘Airline Industry Achievement Award’, in the year 2007 for achieving the position of a market leader. The airline already won several titles like ‘Best Airline in Canada and North America’, judged by the readers of different travel magazines.

Along with keeping their customers happy and satisfied, Air Canada also works hard to do their part in keeping the environment preserved. The airline has already been spending billions on this process. It is also investing in new aircrafts, which are energy efficient. Air Canada has also brought reduction by 28%, in the emission amount of their flights. By 2020, they also aspire to improve their fuel efficiency, by 25%.

Air Canada also launched green programs in-house and recycling programs on board. They teamed up with an interesting program called ‘zerofootprint’. This program allows passengers to voluntarily offset the carbon emissions from the flight they have taken by participating in the reforestation program in Canada.

Though Air Canada is counted among the largest airlines in the world, yet it seeks the help of the other airlines to offer an extensive network of worldwide destinations to its passengers.
